Philanthropy -- Cornerstone

Project Cornerstone stems from the oldest Women's Shelter in Virginia. The Shelter is not far from campus and has been in collaboration with the Virginia Tech Women's Center for quite some time.

The Women's Shelter has been housing nearly 30 women and children at a time to help protect them from situations of domestic violence. Many women with their children will come to this shelter to remove themselves from their abuser and to hopefully start a new life.

Cornerstone is a small apartment complex which houses women and their children while the women either seek employment or further their education. Many women, while living in Cornerstone, will finish their GED or attend New River Community College for a degree.

These women will typically live in the apartment complex and establish themselves for two to four years depending on the situation.

The Fashion Merchandising Design Society (FMDS) has been contributing to Cornerstone since the very beginning. Every year, FMDS will choose a room to buy all the furnishings for and decorate before a family moves into the apartment.

FMDS Thanks you for all of your donations!
